Welcome to Towns County School
Nutrition! Towns County School Nutrition is dedicated to providing wholesome, nutritious meals to the students of Towns County with an opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch every day. Towns County’s School Nutrition Program is regulated by USDA's National School Lunch Program (NSLP) which has recently been revised to better meet the Dietary Guidelines of Americans 2010. The updated regulations require schools to offer more whole grains, fruits, vegetables, including leafy greens, red/orange vegetables, beans and legumes. Additionally, school meals should have less fat, specifically saturated and trans fats, less added sugars and less sodium. Our menus provide a variety of healthy choices that meet the new requirements including homemade entrees, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, freshly prepared salads and sandwiches. The meals are affordable, nutritious, and served by school nutrition professionals who care about children. These meals contribute to a successful academic experience and encourage a lifetime of healthy eating. School cafeterias are learning centers where students, teachers, and parents develop sound nutritional practices that support a healthy lifestyle. The school nutrition program provides the fuel for student learning. Parents and community members are welcome to join us for meals in our cafeterias, just call 706-896-4131, ext. 1020, to let us know in advance of your plans to visit.
